Fair Wear Status Update

Article published on December 22, 2023

Throwing it back to 2011, when you change your relationship status, the first to know was Facebook. Well, we (temporarily) changed our relationship status with Fair Wear Foundation and are only updating it now. We’re late in sharing this news because changing it didn’t change the importance and the day-to-day functioning of our social mission. It didn’t change the standards and expectations we hold ourselves and our partners to in regards to labor rights and social compliance. We are still committed to the labor practices below:

Since January 2023, Picture has been part of Fair Wear’s pilot project: The Academy. Fair Wear’s member brands are industry frontrunners, raising the bar for human rights in their supply chains. To continue to push brands and to get ahead of this legislative developments, in general, Fair Wear aims to guide brands from across the industry on how to implement HRDD (long name: Human Rights Due Diligence) in their own supply chains. And they wanted to share that knowledge in a new format called The Academy.

As a Fair Wear member brand, Picture has helped to try out this project, aka guinea pigs. We were testing learning modules, different forms of guidance and other discussions in order to facilitate brands and the wider industry in their HRDD. This will help, it has helped, Fair Wear to make sure they are rolling out an effective and feasible program on a larger scale.

The read-between-the-lines details are that for 2023, there will be no annual Fair Wear Brand Performance Check and we will therefore not receive a score or performance benchmarking category for 2023. This means you as customers cannot read how we have performed as a brand in terms of labor rights and social compliance.
